Structure and Purpose of the Course
This training and resource is designed to prepare The New School's faculty to both teach and prepare courses for the online environment. It will explore both the pedagogical and technical sides of online teaching as both of these elements are of equal importance. Through general tips, best practices, and actual online teaching examples, the course will offer the tools you need to succeed in providing students a great learning experience.
The main goal is to provide you with enough information, assistance, and resources to help you feel confident in leading an online course, as well as offer you the opportunity to begin setting up your (actual) upcoming online course within Canvas. The course will also address Zoom as the synchronous teaching tool most commonly used at The New School.
Time Commitment for the Course
The course is generally designed to require eight to nine hours to complete, which can be best done over three weeks. Instructors with online teaching experience may find the course much quicker to complete.
Access to the Course
Once enrolled in the course, you will have continuous access via your Canvas dashboard. Consider the course to be a resource to be referenced in the future should you need to prepare any new courses or just want to look back to any detail. It is a living document which will be updated with the latest resources and information,
